I’m Ryan Mayo, veteran, writer, mentor, and the voice behind ryanmayodaily.
I served in the British Army (Royal Artillery, ’90–’96), passed P Company, and worked as a signaller/driver. After the Army I managed pubs and restaurants for 20years. then after all the long hours and stress, I decided to hang up my cellar apron and moved into passenger transport with the British railway, where I now mentor as an On-Board Supervisor.
In my spare time, I volunteer with the blind veterans association and our local veterans’ groups and community projects, because service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off.
What this daily blog is about
Short, honest posts; most days, on resilience, service, and the small moments that keep us going. You’ll find:
Behind-the-scenes of my writing, drafts, and ideas in progress Real stories from veterans and the lessons they’ve gifted me Remembrance, history, and reflections on leadership, discipline, and camaraderie Community and volunteering updates; supporting those who served Occasional family notes, podcast bits from Two Paths, and the everyday stuff that makes life good
The concept behind The Lost Hero
My debut novella is a father-and-son story about courage, loss, and remembrance. Michael reads to his father William – an old Paratrooper; as they revisit a lifetime of service and the cost it carries. The book weaves training grounds, deployments, and memory; touching on places like Borneo, Northern Ireland, and the Falklands; while confronting love, duty, and dementia with honesty and respect. It’s fiction with a veteran’s heartbeat: authentic detail, no false heroics, and deep gratitude for those who stood the line.
Why I write
I’m a veteran who still learns from veterans: men and women, whose stories deserve to be heard. I write to honour them, to make sense of the hard days, and to pass on the good we find along the way.
The Royal Artillery motto UBIQUE QUE FAS ET GLORIA DUCUNT “everywhere, where right and glory lead.” Guides this site: stories of service, sacrifice, and hope are everywhere, if we stop and listen.
If you’re a reader, a veteran, a family member, or just curious; welcome.
Read along, leave a comment, share a memory. UBIQUE. Everywhere. Always.
